Terms of Use for Let's Talk Tech

What is Let's Talk Tech?

Let's Talk Tech is in the research stage, so it should only be used by people who are enrolled in the study. Let's Talk Tech is a tool in the form of a web-app to help families talk about different technologies used to support care for older adults. The goals are to educate people about both the pros and cons of using any of these and to engage older adults in talking about what they would or would not like to use. The hope is that it will help family members or caregivers get on the same page about how a person feels about the use of certain technologies in their care.

Do I have to use Let's Talk Tech?

Using Let's Talk Tech is voluntary. You may decide not to use Let's Talk Tech and this decision will not affect your care or relationship with your medical provider in any way.

When do I complete Let's Talk Tech?

You will complete Let's Talk Tech once with your partner. You can complete it all at once or over time. You will receive an email when it is time to complete Let's Talk Tech. The email will contain a Let's Talk Tech login link.

Will I need to remember any passwords?

To create an account, you will provide your email address, a password you create, your name and date of birth. Those questions are asked in order to allow you to reset your password in the future, should you forget. Creating a password will allow you to take a break during the survey and return to where you left off. If you forget your password, you can select to reset it through a link sent to your email.

Privacy policy for Let's Talk Tech

How will my information be used and protected?

Let’s Talk Tech is in the research stage, meaning we are testing it with research study volunteers to learn if it is useful enough to be provided to everyone. As described in detail in the informed consent process with research study participants, the information you provide will be used by University of Washington researchers to understand peoples’ preferences for technologies and to improve the web-app tool itself. This information will be encrypted and stored on secure servers actively maintained and monitored by the University of Washington. Your data will be grouped with data from other participants and no information that identifies you will be shared in any publications. No information that identifies you as a participant will be shared with anyone who is not on the research team. Your data will be deleted by the researchers after 6 years. If you decide to leave the study, you can request that we delete all your data right away. We do not and will not share your data with any third party. Following standard practices for operating safe and reliable internet software, the Let’s Talk Tech server saves information such as IP address, type/version of browser, and similar information for use in understanding how people access Let’s Talk Tech, and in fixing any problems with the software. This information is not linked with the information you enter using Let’s Talk Tech. We work hard at the University of Washington to make sure your information stays private and secure. When you complete Let’s Talk Tech, you will learn how you can electronically share a summary of your documented choices with anyone you want to.
